Bring It On, Daylight Savings

Apparently Liam thinks no crib equals no nap. As soon as I say "sleep tight" and shut the door, he hops out of bed and starts playing with his toys. So far it's been okay because he plays quietly for an hour or two before he starts banging on the door, but this morning he woke up at 7:40 instead of 9:00. Less than 12 hours of sleep for a boy who's used to 15 makes a crabby toddler.

My first order of business today was to fix that problem. I taped aluminum foil in the windows, making the bedroom completely dark when the door was closed. It took Liam about 2 seconds to fall asleep at naptime today. Now let's hope he never figures out how to turn the doorknob.

You could try a roller shade in the window. That is what we have done. They are also called "blackout shades." Then you can still let the light come through sometimes.

Wow! 15 hours! You are the luckiest mom in the world! Even Austin won't sleep that much and he sleeps more than Ethan ever did. Can we trade?

Maybe if you're lucky he'll never learn anything and you can care for him like an invalid is whole life.

15 hours AND a nap? Boy, how I miss those days!!! Enjoy them for as long as they last. : )

Guys. I've confused you. 15 hours was including the nap. It's not quite as great as it sounds.

i did that in my kids' room, too. the foil in the windows trick is an awesome one. i think my neighbors probably all hate how trashy it looks (sometimes i swear i can see the sun reflecting off my windows onto their walls) but it makes for awesome two hour naps.

Kim, two words, Duct Tape. Works for my 'Two Kids' Every time.

I once knew a lady whose kid wouldn't nap anywhere but in her carseat. So, the woman resorted to driving her kid around EVERY SINGLE DAY at noon. Then she had a second kid who wouldn't nap anywhere but in his bed. It didn't make for a good combination for this poor, sweet, confused mother. Maybe I'll tell her about tin foil on the windows, and/or black out shades.

We use light blocking curtains for maisey. We have them in our room and in her room. They're great but sometimes in our small apartment you can go almost all day and not see the sun - scary. Maisey probably doesn't even know it's daylight most of the time... poor kid.
